I can't find the quote but I'll try my best to sum it up. When you stop progressing, you in essense are digressing. Our goal in whatever we do should be to get better but if you're not working towards getting there, you're not fulfilling your potential. If you don't fulfill your potential, you're going backwards. That's pretty much the gist of it.
We got two more weeks! It's gone by so fast!

"There are three ingredients in the good life: learning, earning and yearning." Christoper Morley
We start off in life learning and growing to earn success, once success is achieved we then proceed to the next step or begin a new adventure, a yearning to learn something new.
Graduate school has been a yearning of mine for almost 20 years and I am now so close to earning that degree after a year and a half of valuable learning!
Sheila you are right there with me and Alan it is your turn soon enough, and you will get there!
Take care and see you all next week (not in my green blouse).

Good Luck
Success is dependent on the glands - sweat glands.
Zig Ziglar
This quote is pretty self explanatory. There is no success without work and not just any type of work but hard work. I chose this quote more as a reminded than anything else. Also I hope it provides some sense of reassurance to Kate and Sheila as they prepare for the Praxis. Its nice to know that no matter how intense things seem to be getting, you still have a direct influence on whether or not success is achieved.
Good luck ladies. The Praxis test got nothing on you two!!!!
Now I need to get back to work. The mentoring paper is not going to write itself..... unfortunately.

"Your role as a leader is even more important than you might imagine. You have the power to help people become winners." --Ken Blanchard
I chose this quote because I feel it reflects that lessons and activities we've completed for ED646. This course has trained us to be leaders and mentors in the literacy field. I know we can make a difference in other people's lives now.
I am busy focusing on the Praxis this Saturday, but will soon get to work on our last project, the Professional Development Presentation. With all the training the previous activities have taught me I am eager to combine it all into this final presentation!
Good Luck to you both Alan and Sheila.....Sheila I will see you on Friday (and Saturday)!

I'm Back!!!
If you learn from defeat, you have really lost.
Zig Ziglar
Hey everyone!
First of all brief explanation as to why I haven't blogged. To be honest, I just didn't feel like it. We did our quotes in class the previous to sessions and I got home and blogging ended up being on the bottom of the priority list. Not a very good excuse, I know, but an honest one.
So here I am at 12:20 am. I just posted my two chapter reflections (perhaps the most written reflections ever!) about a half an hour ago. Most of my time and energy was spent on the professional development plan of action, which I found to be extremely difficult to put together. Again to be honest, I have no idea if I did it correctly or not, but it's in.
These challenges bring me to the quote I selected. I went outside of the provided quote resource for this. I wanted to find something that related to my experiences trying to complete the assignments for this week and I think this does a pretty good job. The two chapter reflections aren't that good and the professional development plan of action might not be what appropriate but if i'm able to learn for these potiential mistakes, I haven't made any mistakes after all.
P.S. I apologize if this blog doesn't make sense. Did I mention its 12:30 in the morning?

Back to it!

"Education would be much more effective if its purpose was to ensure that by the time they leave school every boy and girl should know how much they do not know and be imbued with a lifelong desire to know it." -- William Haley
I find this quote inspiring. As teachers and reading specialist it is not merely our job to train students and send them on their way. It is our job to guide them and instill in them a lifelong love of learning, to send them out into the world always curious and always eager to learn more.
Well, we are almost done. One more project to go which I am looking forward to because I can put all the paraprofessional mentoring activities to go use on the Professional Development project.
I hope you all have a nice spring break. The kids and I had a fantastic time in China. It was simply amazing and if you ever have the opportunity to go I highly recommend it.
See you all in two weeks,
Kate

"You are the only one who can use your ability. It is an awesome responsibility." Zig Ziglar
Don't let your talents go to waste--use them and use them well. Take responsibility for your actions, you and only you can control your path to success.
What a long night! UGH! I am exhausted but enlightened. I learned a great deal about both Success For All and Direct Instruction. Both presentations were very informative and very well done. Kudos to you both Alan and Sheila!
Have a wonderful spring break! I cannot even believe it is spring break already!
